Festival Honors Long-Time Benefactor – Establishes New Award for Center Court Tree

The Methuen Festival of Trees has honored its long-time benefactor and friend – Charles – for his unmatched contribution to the Festival. The Board has designated the Center Court at the Festival as the Charles Center Court, the annual Center Court tree sponsor will be awarded the Charles Center Court Award, and the Festival’s annual cash raffle will be permanently designated as the Charles Raffle. “For more than 25 years, Charles was undeniably the artistic inspiration for the Methuen Festival of Trees. His energy, enthusiasm, vision, and creativity have been essential ingredients in the success of the Festival of Trees,” according to Festival president Tom Lussier. “He pushed himself and everyone associated with the Festival to build a world-class event right here in the heart of the Merrimack Valley,” Lussier added. From his very first tree in 1994, “Mrs. Nevin’s Tree,” a beautifully decorated Victorian design filled with the handmade creations of his mother, Mary Mello, Charles continued to delight Festival visitors year after year. In 2011, Charles presented “It’s a Mary Christmas” – a fitting tribute to his wonderful creative partner – his mother. Mary Mello’s beautiful, hand-made ornaments have adorned many of his finest presentations. When Charles decided to pass the torch, he suggested that Center Court should feature the very best of the Festival of Trees. In keeping with his tradition of excellence and creativity, Center Court is now reserved for the winner of the ‘Best of the Festival’ award for the prior year. “We value Charles’ friendship, and we wish him good health and happiness in his retirement. This space will always be known as ‘Charles Center Court’ and our signature cash raffle will remain the Charles Raffle,” Lussier announced at the 2022 Donor Appreciation Evening.
